Chattanooga Girls Rock Camp is a week-long music education program for girls, trans, and non-binary youth ages 10-17 with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and uplifting community in Chattanooga. We provide campers with positive adult mentors and partner with local organizers to create a safe space that allows our campers to think about new ideas, vocalize their opinions, and learn how to become young activists in our community. This is all possible with our talented and dedicated volunteer base! In addition to taking workshops, campers learn an instrument, form a band, and write an original song that culminates in a showcase performance for a large crowd of their friends, family, and community members. Please come out and support our hard-working campers and listen to the songs they have written throughout the week!
Chattanooga Girls Rock was born out of a sincere belief in the transformational effect of a music education (tailored to a wide variety of learning styles, musical interests, and abilities), a commitment to fostering a more diverse and uplifting music scene in Chattanooga, and a desire to provide youth with positive adult mentors and a supportive community where they can feel free to be exactly who they are. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (100% volunteer led), and as we enter our fifth year, we have been encouraged by enthusiastic community support for our program and values. Our social-justice based approach to programming attempts to create space for our youth to vocalize their opinions and address issues of identity, body politics, the media’s influence on their lives, and interpersonal relationships in a supportive environment, in addition to the valuable lessons about teamwork and collaboration they glean from music instruction and creating original music with other kids.
