Hailing from Chattanooga Tennessee, Slim Pickins is a 5-piece bluegrass band that has been opening eyes and ears across the southeast. Their fast paced, lively shows are reminiscent of the diverse musical influences that the band shares. They combine the talent, instrumentation, and song selection of a New Grass Revival, Doc Watson, or David Grisman with a high energy level not seen since the Ramones. It is this combination that pushed the band into recent nominations and subsequent awards from FYI for Best Bluegrass Band and Best Live Band. The band features John Boulware, 2006 Tennessee State Fiddle Champion, leading a group of up and coming hot shots. Slim Pickins music is upbeat, unapologetic, and most importantly fun.
Barefoot Nellie & Co.
Chattanooga’s Barefoot Nellie & Co. is a smooth driving bluegrass group that is sure to impress. With the standard bluegrass band set-up, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo and bass, these musicians manage to blend traditional sounds with more progressive ones. What is created is music that is both accessible and innovative, a successful fusion of things old and new.
The Foothills are an acoustic trio from Chattanooga, Tennessee who blends a diverse range of Americana traditions - folk, country, blues, soul, and bluegrass - in an effort to create timeless musical statements that delicately balance artistic integrity and popular appeal.
Since forming in early 2018, the band has had the opportunity to perform at venues such as The Signal and Songbirds, were finalists in the Road to Nightfall showcase, and have appeared on NPR's Afternoon Music with Richard Winham and Chattanooga Times Free Press' Music Wednesdays.
On their debut release, Shadow of the Mountain, the band faces up to the struggles of life and finding hope against all odds. At their core, the songs are intended for rugged souls. Recorded at The Soundry, the six track EP also features banjo extraordinaire Randy Steele of Slim Pickins Bluegrass Band, drummer JG Oliver of Monday Night Social, and keyboardist Brett Nolan who also engineered, mixed, and mastered the album.
Dovetail is a collaboration between Emma DuBose (fiddle), Jade Watts (bass/accordion) and Fritsl Butler (guitar) who, over the past year, have begun to join together the different styles and influences that each brings to the trio. Though Emma, Fritsl, and Jade come from distinctly different musical backgrounds, they love the challenge of blending their many musical experiences into one distinct sound. Dovetail’s repertoire includes songs by well-known artists such as GIllian Welch and Nanci Griffith; however the band also finds joy in recreating their favorite tunes by lesser- known songwriters. Classical violin, vocal, and piano training inform Dovetail's approach to bluegrass ballads and Americana tunes, and the three singers blend vocal harmonies across surprising countermelodies throughout their repertoire.
